Chromebooks outsell Macs for the first time

American research company International Data Corporation (IDC) have revealed that Chromebooks outsold Macbooks in Q1 of 2016 for the first time.

IDC analyst Linn Haung confirmed that “Chrome OS overtook Mac OS in the US in terms of shipments for the first time”

IDC estimated that Apple shipped around 1.76 million Macs in Q1 while Dell, HP, Lenovo and Asus were able to sell a combined total of almost 2 million Chromebooks during the same period.

The popularity of Chromebooks in the US education sector has likely had an impact on these unprecedented numbers and is likely to add more pressure to the likes of Microsoft who have seen another decline in sales of PCs.

Chromebooks are popular in businesses as they are affordable and work well alongside videoconferencing hardware such as Chromebase for meetings and Chromebox.
